BALIKAW
A downloadable game
DO YOU DARE ENTER LOLA OLET'S HOUSE?
This game was initially created for a Game jam (We got 3rd place) but we decided to continue developing it. We are currently working on improving this game. We have a lot of plans for this game that wasn't pushed through because of the deadline but we will make sure to implement everything in the next version. Thank you for checking out the first version of Balikaw, stay tuned for future updates!
Disclaimer: The models for characters used in this game is not ours. (We used free assets for now-It is credited in our credits- as we have deadline for the jam but will make our own model in the next version. Thank you for undestanding!)
Models:
Note: This is a non-profit game. All rights to these models remain with the original creators.

After receiving a mysterious letter calling her back, teenage Pauelette travels to her grandmother's remote, decaying house in the countryside. Her Lola Olet is frail and strangely absent after sundown, leaving behind eerie nightly chores that blur the line between tradition and terror.
These tasks you're given are not ordinary. They are rooted in ancient pamahiin — Filipino superstitions that must be followed with absolute precision. Each mistake draws something darker closer. Explore a home that whispers secrets, uncover cryptic riddles, and face the chilling truth: you are not alone.
Fail, and not only will you let Lola down — you might never see the morning sun.
YOUR ONLY GOAL: ENDURE UNTIL MORNING.
🎵 Turn up volume for better gameplay.

✦ CHORES EXPLANATION ✦
These nightly tasks are based on real Filipino pamahiin—superstitions believed to protect the home from spirits that wander after dark. Here’s what each chore means:
• Cover all the foods
It is believed that leaving food uncovered at night can attract spirits or unwanted energies. Covering the food protects it from both the physical and the supernatural.
• Cover all the mirrors
Mirrors are thought to act as gateways or portals for spirits. Covering them at night prevents ghosts from appearing in reflections or crossing into the home.
• Clean the statues
In Filipino households, religious statues are believed to hold protective energy. Cleaning them at night is seen as a way to show respect and keep their blessing strong. Dust or dirt is said to weaken their “protection,” so wiping them ensures no negative spirits can approach.
• Close all the windows
Closing windows seals the home from evil spirits that may roam at night. It symbolizes locking out negative energies and unseen entities.
• Put candles in the altar
Lighting candles on an altar is believed to guide good spirits, honor ancestors, and create a protective barrier against darker forces.
• Deploy lana drops
In Filipino folklore, lana is a special oil believed to attract or reveal spirits. Dropping lana in certain places is said to “signal” nearby entities—often used in horror stories or rituals to lure ghosts closer.
✦ DIALOGUE TRANSLATIONS ✦
Here is a document containing translations of important dialogues and lines spoken by characters in the game. This will help you understand the story, context, and hidden meanings behind Lola Olet’s words.

Heyo! I played your game on my twitch stream, and I genuinely think it has a lot of potential. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the visuals, great work on that.
I did encounter a few minor issues, and I’m not sure if they were intentional. When restarting the game, the tasks/objectives seem to change unexpectedly. I also noticed that the enemy on the second floor tends to get stuck and camp in one spot. When you approach, it immediately goes straight toward the player. Maybe adjusting the enemy’s collider or movement behavior might help with that.
Despite those small bugs, I had fun playing it (even though I didn’t finish). Once those issues are patched up, I’d be happy to share the game with streamers and creators I know.
Suggestion: It might be helpful to include both English and Tagalog language options. I had a bit of difficulty understanding some parts at first, until I realized there was a document explaining the narrative.
Overall, great job! Looking forward to future updates. 😊
WHOAAAA MY GOAT NOTICED OUR GAME🔥
Hi, I'm Jai the leader of the team that made Balikaw. We're student devs that made this for a month long game jam this is actually our first time making a game and we immediately jumped to 3d using Godot. We got inspired by your works in the Filipino Horror Game scene and we thought to give it a try and thus came Balikaw. As of right now, we don't really have any artists that are proficient in making any 3d assets so we're really having a hard time in making the game slowing our progress so bugs and issues and the likes come from us being first timers but don't worry it'll be fixed soon.
Thank you so much for recognizing our game and us. We'll make sure to finish it as soon as we can so we can connect. If you have any more advice and tips or suggestions it would immensely help me and the team.
Thank you sou much
- Jai
Ooooh well this was unexpected hahaha! For your first game, it's pretty good, I was on edge the entire time until the enemy got stuck lol. Anyways, keep it up!
If you're in the Filipino horror games hub discord server, be sure to let me know. So you can share your game in the server for everyone to see it.
Survive until Night 5 to see the ending!😉

Hi developers, first of all I want to say that this is awesome and that this is not easy to make so I'm really proud. The ambience, the sound effect, the scream, all of it fits so well. Its funny that I can throw a punch. Over all the game was fun, its more scarier because the statues. This is nice!
Thank you so much for the kind words and for playing our game. We really appreciate it!😊
